As I prepare myself for the fall semester, I’ve come to realize that I have a lot of reading to do for the next few years. Being in the doctoral program means getting familiar with some of the research already out there. For the past few days, I’ve spent a great deal of my time reading papers on the effects of communication media on the decision-making process, the analysis of relational communication in dyads, and all sorts of other complicated sounding things.
The thing is - although all of these topics seem so hard to understand at first, once you really get into reading the paper and seeing the way the researcher is trying to propose a theory, it’s not all that bad. I was a bit intimidated at first, but after a few papers, I’m finding it easier to comprehend. The concepts being discussed are actually interesting. I’m glad that I started early with the reading.
My only question is - how in the world am I supposed to read all these papers every week (I spent about 15 hours reading this week) AND take three graduate level courses? This will not be easy.
