All Is Safe

Hurricane Rita made landfall early morning last night somewhere around the Louisiana/Texas border as a Category 3 storm. It’s now classified as a tropical depression, and will likely see a bitter end soon.

As for those of us in Houston – we’re all okay. I ended up staying at the Marriott last night at Beltway 8 and Westheimer because my family was a bit worried that the large tree outside of our house might cause damage. The night was calm, with the sound of some wind and a bit of rain, but nothing that we haven’t seen before during a normal storm.

I returned home earlier today to a cool house (we had turned the A/C to freezing cold just in case the power went out) and it really was as if nothing happened. We didn’t even lose power, as was evidenced by the fact that none of the alarm clocks had been reset. There was some light debris on the roads by our house, but that was mostly the extent of the damage.

Lina is doing well too. She had some neighbors over last night and they played games until late. Judging from the news reports, I’m sure that the others in Houston are doing okay.

The best part about it? No school until Thursday!
