Once again, I’ve descended upon Austin, the live music capital of the world, for SXSW. For some reason, the conference is always at the perfect time - my spring break.
What separates this year from the others is that I’m going to have to approach the process of choosing which panels to attend with a different agenda. The main attraction of SXSW for me has always been the ability to learn more about where the web is going, as well as to get a chance to see all the people whose blogs I read on a regular basis.
‘Read’ should be read in the past tense though (hope that makes sense - say it out loud a few times). Unfortunately, since I’ve started the doctoral program I’ve found little time, if any, to keep up with my favorite weblogs. I hope I’m not too far behind on the latest advancements on the web. There can’t be that much that has changed in the last year..right?
In any case, I hope to be able to find some content that may of value to my “research”. I haven’t found what I want to focus on, but I have always been interested in the topics that are discussed at SXSW .
To use terminology from my classes, I will have to look at SXSW this year through a research “lens”, instead of a web designer one. Yeah, I just said lens. That’s the kind of metaphors that they like to use.
Silly, isn’t it?
