I’m aware that the blogging has been a bit sparse in the past few months (years?), but I have to write down what happened last night.
I went to go see Armin van Buuren @ Bar Rio with Lina, Mike, BPK, Stormy, Jamie, and others. Blake Jarrell opened up and played until 12:40 (!). I was a bit disappointed with his set - it went up and down, and much of the tracks seemed filler-ish.
Then, Armin came on the stage and the mood changed. It wasn’t that packed, so we were able to make it up to the front and stayed there for close to two hours. Being up front makes it so much more personal and you can actually see Armin’s facial expressions and reactions. It’s hard to describe, but it’s a great feeling. Among the tracks he played:
- Perpetuous Dreamer - Sound of Goodbye (Nic Chagall Drumbeat Re-edit)
- Paul van Dyk and Starkillers and Austin Leeds - New York City
- Ronski Speed - The Space We Are (with, amazingly, the lyrics being displayed on the projector to the exact timing of the song)
- Markus Schulz - Cause You Know
- DJ Shah - Who Will Find Me (!)
Throughout the night, I was hoping he would play John O’Callaghan - Big Sky. By 2:30, I was exhausted and headed out. Two minutes later, Jamie called me and told me that he was playing Big Sky! Ah well…
And Armin acknowledged my red Amnesia - Ibiza shirt at least a couple of times.. it was a fantastic night!
